Improving Security in Russell: CCTV Initiative

Following a concerning spate of burglaries in Russell over the summer 2024/25 period, a proactive group of residents has taken initiative to restore and improve our town’s security camera network. This important work is being carried out in collaboration with key community partners.

Collaboration is Key

The resident working group is consulting closely with:

  • Our local Police Constable, Mike Gorrie
  • Security specialists, CCTV Northland
  • Other supportive local businesses and organisations

Progress Update: Aucks Road Camera Now Operational

We are pleased to announce that the security camera located at the strategic corner of Aucks Road and the G.A.S. station is now fully functioning.

Important Note: Access to the footage captured by this CCTV camera is strictly limited to the Police for official investigation purposes only.

Future Plans: Assessing Further Needs

The committee is actively investigating other key entry and exit points for Russell. This assessment will help determine the necessity and optimal locations for any additional cameras to further enhance the security of our community.
