Cleaning up our beaches at Kororāreka and Okiato
On Sunday, 29th December 2024, the Big Bay Beach Clean Up took place at Kororāreka, Okiato, Waitangi, Paihia, and Opua. This was a repeat of last year’s Beach Clean Up event, and hopefully not the last! For the first time, Resilient Russell teamed up with Bay of Islands Sailing Week to clean the beaches at Kororāreka and Okiato. It was a great success, with 17 volunteers turning up in Kororāreka and 11 in Okiato.
The focus was on removing man-made rubbish, especially plastic.
After the clean up, volunteers were treated to free coffee and delicious cake at Pompallier House Gardens.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped out to remove litter from the beaches and beyond!
